mimijag asked: BEAUTIFUL PERSON AWARD! Once you are given this award, you are supposed to paste it in the ask of 8 people who deserve it. If you break the chain, nothing will happen, but it’s sweet to know that someone thinks you’re beautiful inside and out.

A Sybil x Tom drabble, inspired by the beautiful manip above created by the ever wonderful angiemagz.
This is another one in my series of s4 AU LSL drabbles - previous drabbles in this series can be found here: 1, 2, 3 (M rated), 4, 5, 6, 7. It goes out to the lovely yankeecountess, just because she had a bit of a hard time earlier this week, to show her our support! :)
In this drabble I create my own version of Rose MacClare - she is a lively but inexperienced girl, who grew up in the wilds of Scotland and is excited and nervous about her first season in London with the Crawleys in summer 1923. Sybil and Tom live in London with their daughter - Sybil is attending medical school, while Tom is working as a journalist. This is set at one of Rose’s first London parties…
"Gosh, Sybil - I’m so nervous! What if I say the wrong thing or look foolish in front of all those people?"
"Don’t worry, Rose - you will be fine. Just be yourself - if people don’t appreciate you for who you are, that is their loss."
Rose smiled at her cousin, linking her arm in hers.
"Thank you for coming tonight - you don’t know what it means to me. I’ve always longed to have a older sister to confide in, and you’ve been a bit like that for me these last couple of weeks."
"I’ve been happy to do it, Rose - it’s been lovely to spend a bit of time with you again. Anything you want to ask, please do!"
"Well, there is one thing…"
The younger woman looked down shyly, drawing her toe along an imaginary line on the floor, not sure how to begin.
"Really, Rose - anything! Remember, I am a doctor, or I will be one day."
Their eyes met. “Well, it’s about men, or boys, or… you know what I mean. I’ve never really spent much time with them before this season, and I feel so unsure, wondering about what to say and what I am meant to do to attract a husband…”
Sybil’s eyes were sparkling as she replied -
"Rose, listen to me - if a man is right for you, he will fall in love with you for who you are, not who you pretend to be. Do you really want to be one of those simpering misses, surrounded by men taken in by her charms but who never really shows her true self? Believe me, you will know when the right man comes along - and once he does, no-one else will ever do…"
Sybil’s eyes were dreamy as her voice tailed away, and Rose knew why. She had only recently met Tom Branson, but she could easily tell from the few times she had seen Sybil and her husband together how deeply they were in love.
"Sybil, you are right! I want the kind of marriage you and Tom have. I hope I can find a man who will love me as he loves you…"
Sybil found herself blushing as she reached out to give Rose a hug.
"You will find him, Rose. I’m sure of it - don’t forget to look in some unexpected places!"
Sybil saw Tom waving at her, and a smile broke out across her face as her husband crossed the room to join them. He came to her side and put his arm around her waist, kissing her lips as she turned to welcome him. Her hand went up unconsciously to stroke his cheek and, as their kiss broke, she felt a little tremor around her heart as she met his gaze… He leaves me breathless as a schoolgirl, still….
Rose smiled to herself, watching them - If I can be even half as happy as Sybil is when I get married, I will be doing very well!
AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! I love the manip *AND* the drabble that goes with it! I always like to imagine that Sybil was Rose’s “hero” amongst her cousins—so cute! Thank you both!!!! *attack hug*
I agree I think Sybil and Rose would have gotten on together very well.. and I think Sybil would try to steer her in the right direction instead of telling her what she should do..
For Christine :)
Mmmm scrolling down and staring at #9 for the next half hour… Dont mind me
